Job Description

POSITION: Income Maintenance Caseworker II   SALARY:       $33,000   DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary purpose of this position is to determine and re- determine eligibility for income maintenance programs that include the Medicaid for Adults and Energy programs according to federal, state and local policies and guidelines. The worker is responsible for conducting interviews with applicants and on-going clients to collect all of the required information in order to make a determination of eligibility according to regulations. The worker is responsible for reading and implementing Medicaid policies and procedures. This position requires extensive work on the computer, running on-line verifications, checking various state and local databases, and keying information into the state network. The worker is responsible for meeting federal, state, and local unit deadlines.   As with all positions with the Department of Social Services, this position is mandatory to serve in shelters during the time of natural and man-made disasters including overnight and weekends.   This position is classified as FLSA non-exempt.   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker I or graduation from an accredited associated degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science or a closely related curriculum or graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an Income Maintenance program; or graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information and compiling data, and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks, or an equivalent combination of training or experience.   This position requires the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks. Careful visual attention to details and excellent mental concentration are essential. Precision and accuracy in issuance of benefits must be exact in order to administer the programs and provide benefits to those who are eligible, without adverse actions such as errors and overpayments.   Strong computer skills required, experience in NCFAST strongly preferred.   Note** - A work against candidates will be considered at a lower salary at the Income Maintenance Caseworker I classification. A work against Capacity allows for the suitable candidate to obtain the experience by working in a lower classification. The lower classification has a salary of $27,500. The minimum qualifications for this position is graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; or graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or   performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program; or graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which meets the minimum standard set forth by the State Personnel for the Income Maintenance Caseworker I classification.
