Job Description This position provides a variety of specialized/technical accounting and bookkeeping functions. It is responsible for a complete, systematic set of transactions in a specialized (governmental) accounting function. Position tracks all record-keeping, monitoring and updating of accounting records, analyzing expenditures against budget, recording receipts, processes accounts payable/receivable and produces financial statements, reports and summaries for management. This position is responsible for completing the monthly state reimbursement report (1571). The position supervises a small clerical staff. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities General knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices. Knowledge of and ability to explain, and apply the provisions of the standardized accounting practices adopted by State Government. Ability to assist in interpreting and analyzing accounting data and applying that analysis to the departmental or institutional needs and determine compliance with pertinent guidelines, rules, regulations, and laws; assist in established and maintaining effective working relationships with representatives of related contact agencies, departmental staff, and the general public; communicate effectively in oral and written form. Minimum Education & Experience Graduation from a four year college or university with a major in accounting, business administration, or other curriculum that would provide a core curriculum in financial management coursework; Or a two year degree in accounting from a business school or community college and two years of accounting or auditing experience; or graduation from high school and six years of experience as an accounting technician, three of which must have been at an advanced level. Physical Requirements This position works in an office setting and may sit for long periods of time. There is minimal strenuous effort to include moving boxes up to 10lbs and stooping/bending to file documents. Position requires the physical ability to communicate verbally by person, phone and in writing. Visual acuity that requires attention and mental concentration to ensure accuracy in work.
