General Statement of Duties

The Forsyth County Department of Social Services is seeking an experienced, innovative and analytical social services professional to serve as the Deputy Director of Social Services.  This position is responsible for strategic planning and organizational development, financial management of programs and the annual budget, organization of program implementation, human services evaluation and planning, facility operations, and effective internal and community working relationships. This professional will work in collaboration with departmental service areas and programs to support optimal service delivery to the citizens of Forsyth County and to support the Agency Director in strengthening collaborations with community based organizations and contractors of services. Acts for the Director of Social Services in his/her absence.

Distinguishing Features

The Deputy Director of Social Services is responsible for assuring operational design and implementation of the agency's strategic planning activities. Responsible for oversight of Economic Services, Child Support and Medicaid Services, management of facility, operations and emergency management functions, record retention and project management. This person plays a key role in the facilitation and leadership of the agency's management team and routinely represents the agency or Director in community groups, task forces, interagency committees, and meetings and may represent the Director at conferences or workshops at the state, county, or community level.

Minimum Education and Experience

Master's degree in Social Work, Public Administration or Business Administration and five years of experience in a Human Services field including three years in a supervisory or managerial capacity or; Graduation from a four-year college or university and seven years of experience in a Human Services field including four years in a supervisory or managerial capacity or; An equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver's license required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Deputy Director of Social Services will be responsible for the annual federal, state, and local budget as well as involved in routine program decisions that carry significant weight.  The primary functions of this position include: -  Financial management of programs and the annual budget; -  General operational & emergency management; -  Strategic planning & human service evaluation; -  Staff training & development; and -  Partnership & stakeholder development. The ideal candidate for this position will be forward-thinking, data-driven, and inclusive in their approach to decision making and collaboration.
