Job Description

POSITION: Social Worker III Foster Care/Adoptions– Services Unit SALARY RANGE: $38,592 – 68,471   DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Foster Care and Adoptions – This position is responsible for providing Foster Care case management to a caseload of children who are in agency custody. This includes making monthly contacts, coordinating placements, making monthly collateral contacts, and working towards permanency for children within one year. This position is responsible for licensing family foster care homes in the county including conducting PS-MAPP training, conducting background checks of potential foster care families, and monitoring foster care homes once licensed. This position entails an extensive amount of court involvement, including completing court reports and testifying for the agency for all children in the agency’s custody. This position is responsible for the administration of the LINKS program. This position is responsible for the entire adoption services program from initial inquiries by prospective adoptive parents, to the adoption decree, to post-adoption services. This position also requires involvement with the court, including reports to the court and pre-placement assessments. This position is responsible for taking reports of alleged child abuse, neglect and dependency. This position also provides case planning/ case management for cases that are substantiated or found to be in need of services as needed. Work with community agencies to provide mandated services.  This position requires thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices. This position requires the ability to write organized and professional court reports, maintain case records, and other required documentation. This position is required to testify in court cases. Ability to perform manual work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects and/or lifting of small children when necessary. This position is required to be on-call one week a month 24/7 to respond to child and adult protective services reports. Position does require occasional overnight travel and overtime as needed to meet state mandates and timelines. Requires computer proficiency and valid North Carolina driver’s license and car for use at work with valid insurance. This position will also provide back-up for the other programs in the services unit as needed including Child Protective Services and Adult Services.   This position is also mandatory to work in county run shelters in the event of natural or man-made disasters.   MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only); Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; Master's degree in a human services field and one year of directly related experience; Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience.   Anyone interested in applying for this position must submit a typed fully completed NC State Application (PD-107) including a cover letter and resume to:
