Job Description

The New Hanover County Department of Social Services is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and customer friendly professional to aid citizens in need of economic assistance in the role of a Human Services Caseworker Zone 3.  Caseworkers are responsible for interviewing clients and collateral contacts using various complex automated systems, explaining the requirements and benefits of all Medicaid programs, Food and Nutrition Services, Child Care subsidy, Work First Family Assistance and the Federal Marketplace to determine eligibility and/or re-eligibility for the various programs. Caseworkers assigned to zone 3 duties specialize in Long term care services through Medicaid, but are required to work with multiple programs.  Duties include researching and evaluating resources; verifying information; processing applications; explaining and recommending programs; referring clients to other appropriate agencies or community programs and documenting findings and the status of the case.  This position will specialize in Long-Term Care, Special Assistance, Special Assistance In-home, PACE, CAP and eligibility for benefits of various community resource programs. Must have at least one year of experience as a Caseworker in a State, County, or Municipal agency and experience establishing eligibility in multiple economic assistance programs.  Adult Medicaid experience in Long Term Care is preferred.   Hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.  Must be available to work during emergency situations.
