Job Description

Essential Duties
New Hanover County is seeking a detail oriented, customer focused Universal Caseworker supervisor in the Department of Social Services.  Responsibilities will include supervising a unit of caseworkers responsible for determining client eligibility for Food and Nutrition. Responsibilities will include supervising a unit responsible for answering questions about client eligibility; making changes to cases, assigning and monitoring work; training new and ongoing workers; interpreting program policies; reviewing cases for accuracy; responding to complaints and inquiries; evaluating policies and procedures with state and county representatives; preparing reports; and evaluating unit needs for budget purposes. Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of experience as a universal caseworker, economic services caseworker or income maintenance caseworker;   or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have skill in managing people, customer service, quality assurance and interpreting policies.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers, dealing with a high level of public contact and knowledge of community resources required.
  • FNS policy knowledge, NCF proficiency, and previous supervisory experience is preferred. 
Other Information
Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM weekdays; rotating 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Tuesdays; must be available during emergency situations. Salary information:  The hiring range for this position is $44,659 - $60,290 + a competitive benefits package.  Salary is negotiable within the hiring range, depending on qualifications.
