  INCOME MAINTENANACE CASEWORKER III Position # 651328                                                                  Salary Range:       $42,168 - $66,644 Primary Purpose of Position:  The primary purpose of this position is to take and process Adult Medicaid and Family and Children Medicaid/Health Choice applications for Pitt County residents.  In addition, these same Medicaid related applications are initiated for out of county residents and forwarded to their prospective county Department of Social Services. This is a contracted position with ECU Physicians Practice and it fulfills their need to have patients considered for Medicaid who may not have insurance.  This position provides the ECU Physicians Practice with possible means of being paid for services rendered to patients needing insurance help. This is not a lead worker position.  There is no on-going caseload for this position.  Applications taken and processed, or assigned to and processed by this worker, are randomly selected, pulled and checked for accuracy and timeliness by the Supervisor/Lead worker and state personnel.  ECU Physicians Practice personnel refer applicants to this position. Customers are also referred to this position by numerous sources such as walk-ins, private physicians, relatives and friends, Congressmen/women and Senators, news media personnel, church staff, legal aid personnel, Social Security office personnel, and other agency personnel. This worker will testify in court if subpoenaed or if requested as a part of an agency-initiated court action such as welfare fraud. This worker prepares and presents the summary of the agency's evidence for any local or state appeal hearing resulting from case actions taken by this worker. This worker may be assigned other duties in other program work areas as needed. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Thorough knowledge of income maintenance program assigned.  Considerable knowledge of all agency and community programs and services which could affect the client/applicant. General knowledge of all income maintenance programs. Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret a variety of regulations, policies and procedure of varying complexity. Ability to work independently and prioritize work. Ability to instruct arid evaluate the work of lower level employees. Ability to train employees in new and existing rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to understand the needs and problems of clients/applicants. Ability to perform caseworker function under and within structured time frames. Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:  Two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Additional Training/Experience:  This worker may have to have additional policy and procedure training as mandated by the county or State.  Worker may need to attend additional training provided by the Training Unit.  Supervisor may require worker to attend additional Base Training as corrective action requirement as determined by the supervisor.
