Primary Purpose of Position: The primary purpose of this position includes screening and directing incoming phone calls, making sure the best possible answer is given before transferring to the corresponding agent if/when necessary; performing case maintenance by inputting information from Post Office letters into ACTS in order to assist agents with locate; setting the professional tone for potential and existing clientele who are requesting our services.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods and practices; general knowledge of and the ability to use correct spelling, punctuation and specialized vocabulary; ability to proofread.
The ability to learn and apply a variety of guidelines applicable to the work process, to use a variety of office equipment, to work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties, to record and compile information based on general guidelines, to balance and reconcile figures, to screen communications based on predetermined guidelines, to gather and give information and instructions regarding the work process and procedures and the ability to learn to use specialized office equipment. This employee may also require ability to coordinate work of other support staff, student workers or volunteers.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least one year of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All DSS positions are subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and client population and are subject to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as required and may be required to staff shelter overnight.
