Job Description

Primary Purpose of PositionManagement and supervision of one (1) unit of social work staff whose responsibility it is to provide intervention treatment services when abuse, neglect or dependency has been substantiated; additionally, the position has the legally mandated responsibility for ensuring children and families at risk of abuse and neglect receive prompt and competent intervention; the safety of children is maintained while helping the parent to modify harmful behavior; and the family’s capacity to protect and nurture its children is strengthened by investigation and assessment of risk to the child.  It is the supervisor’s responsibility to train, direct, and support the social workers to do the tasks required in this intervention.  The supervisor also teaches and models practice standards that are consistent with federal and state statutes, Administrative rules, and protective policies. This supervisor's team consists of Adoptions social worker, Foster Home Licensing social workers, SW I/A&T and Social Worker Is.
 
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThis position requires knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training; considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems; considerable knowledge of behavioral and socio-economic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources; knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern social work programs; the ability to supervise, train, or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns, or other staff; express ideas clearly and concisely; and to plan and execute work effectively.
Must possess an NC driver's license. Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:  Master's degree from an accredited school of social work; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of directly related experience in case management, assessment  & referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning; or a four-year degree in a human service field and two years of directly related experience in case management, assessment & referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning; or graduation from a four-year college or university and three years of directly related experience in case management, assessment & referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All DSS positions are subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and client population and are subject to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as required and may be required to staff shelter overnight.  A COPY OF A CERTIFIED COLLEGE TRANSCRIPT AND A LETTER OF REFERENCE MUST BE PROVIDED UPON REQUEST.
