Job Description

Description of Job Duties:  The primary purpose of this position is to provide supervision and leadership to a team of six (6) Social Worker IAT positions. These workers are primarily responsible for the initiation and completion of Child Protective Services Reports (CPS). This team leader is responsible for ensuring that social work staff initiate reports of alleged maltreatment timely, adequately assess safety and risk of children in their environment, and make critical decisions concerning removal and placement when it becomes necessary to do so to ensure child safety. This position oversees the development, with the family, of formal plans to eliminate conditions of abuse, neglect and dependency. The team facilitates movement in and out of the legal system when necessary, including immediate removal from the home of children identified as being in danger. When on-going services are necessary, it is the supervisor’s responsibility to ensure that completed records are transferred timely. This supervisor is responsible for regular staffing and policy reviews to ensure the provision of services adheres to state standards, and reviewing all documentation, reports, petitions, and state mandated child welfare forms contained within the CPS record for the team. This supervisor conducts group staff meetings and individual conferences; provides training, sets unit goals, evaluates staff and recommends disciplinary action if necessary; conducts interviews for vacant positions within this unit and makes recommendations for new staff.  Supervisor monitors employees’ hours worked and approves leave.   This position is directly supervised by the Social Work Program Manager. This employee will learn and use programs Compass Pilot and Compass Appointments    (Compass Co-Pilot, if issued a DSS iPad) as required by position to do, but not limited to: request leave, schedule/receive appropriate appointments, set up virtual files, scan/retrieve documents, receive/send tasks.  Experience using Microsoft Office 2000 (Word, Excel, etc.) required. Educational/Experience Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or
  • Master’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
