Job Description

  Job Description The primary purpose of this position is to implement the provision of Child Welfare Services to a Team of Social Workers. These may include CPS Afterhours, CPS Intake, CPS Investigations, CPS Assessment, Treatment, and Child Permanency. Regular office hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Rotates with other supervisors for After Hours on a rotating basis if needed. Work may be required after 5:00 p.m.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for assessing, evaluating, and assisting social workers in the unit with regards to client needs and professional development. Evaluates the overall unit by reviewing cases and service delivery to determine if services are effective and if the overall objectives of the various child welfare services are being accomplished. Completes prompt and thorough investigation of complaints, casework and other counseling services to parents or other caretakers. Reviews documentation, conferences with Department of Social Services' attorney, and testifies in court, if needed.   Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training. Principles of interpersonal, family and group dynamics; human growth and development; different social group approach models including tasks centered modalities, rehabilitation, organizational, developmental, treatment, behavioral intervention; a wide range of interpersonal intervention techniques; principles or organizational structures; theories and techniques of planned change; community organization principles, techniques, and goals; social work principles, practices and techniques; a wide range of psychological, social, human growth and personality development principles and most importantly family centered practice approach when engaging and working with families. Ability to supervise, train, or orient social workers, students, interns, or other staff.   Minimum Education & Experience Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a master’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.   Physical Requirements Must be able to physically perform the basic life support functions of stooping, reaching, walking, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform sedentary work which includes exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Must have the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate typewriter or computer terminal, do extensive reading and determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.   NOTE: Valid Driver’s License
