Job Description

Job Purpose

The Social Worker I, under general supervision, provides professional social work services related to foster care, case management and ICPC facilitation and monitoring. This position is responsible for collaborating with families working within the foster care structure. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of basic social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework, group work and community problems.

Responsibilities

Foster Care Visitation 50%
  • Provide transportation for children and families when necessary
  • Facilitate and supervise weekly parent visits
  • Document interaction between parent and children
  • Provide documentation to the social worker assigned to the case
Case Management    25%
  • Assist assigned social worker with medical, dental, and therapeutic appointments
  • Assist parents with necessary appointments, including but not limited to therapy, housing, employment appointments and any other case plan initiatives
  • Assist assigned social worker with mandated paperwork and filing
  • Complete agency home studies and kinship care referrals
  • Perform other duties in the absence of the assigned social worker
ICPC/Out of County Courtesies:   15%
  • Assess and monitor ICPC requests
  • Submit written documentation to the sending state regarding the situation with the child and placement provider
  • Assess and monitor Out of County Courtesy requests
  • Submit written documentation monthly to the sending state regarding the situation with the child and placement provider
  • Submit written documentation to the sending county regarding the situation with the child and placement provider
Other:    10%                                         
  • Seeks and attends job-specific training to comply with state mandates
  • Attends appropriate local training as available through agency or others
  • Maintains a record of your personal training to assist in future choices
  • Additional tasks may be assigned within the work unit if deemed necessary

Skills & Abilities

Education & Experience:  Bachelor's degree within a human services field or; a bachelor's degree and one year of directly related experience in areas of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Computer Skills:  Prior experience with Microsoft Windows, Proficient in typing accurately and fast paced. License/Credentials: Possession of a valid NC driver's license and access to a personal vehicle. Bilingual in Spanish, preferred. Other Position Information: This position is subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and County needs. *A copy of a certified college transcript and a letter of reference must be provided upon request.
