The Person County Department of Social Services exists to alleviate emotional and economic distress among the people of the county. The In-Home and Foster Care Unit is a new unit in the agency created to insure that state standards are met with supervision and caseloads. This unit is one of three Child Welfare units with a focus on assuring that that the emotional, social, physical and economic needs of child(ren) in the county are met. The primary purpose of the position is to follow-up with families who have substantiated child abuse and/or neglect reports to provide case management and treatment services and to provide out of home services to families whose children are in agency custody per court order. With In-Home Services cases, the worker assists the family in developing a network of community resources and a support system. With the foster care caseload, the worker works with parents, children and resource families to reunify the family and to work with families when a permanent plan has been accomplished and after-care services are indicated. When family reunification is not possible, other means of bringing stability to the child’s life will be obtained.  For children whose physical custody is with parents or removal caretakers, services will be geared towards prevention of removal of the children from the home.
