Job Description

Description of Job Duties:    The primary purpose of this position is to provide licensing and relicensing of foster homes in Wayne County.  In addition this position provides ongoing supervision and support to licensed foster parents. This position assists in seeking appropriate placements for children entering foster care. The position ensures that all safety measures are in place for children and that the foster parents are appropriately assessed according to licensing guidelines and adequately trained to meet the needs of the children that are in the custody of the county. This position acts as a liaison between the foster parents and social workers. This position will be assigned Inter-State Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) cases. This worker will assess the homes of parents and relatives residing in Wayne County and requesting the placement of biological, relative or adoptive children in their homes.  This position will be responsible for an array of activities including completing, documenting/maintaining foster homes records; locating placement for children entering custody/placement and placement due to disruption/respite; documenting placement and training logs for foster parents; completing Mutual Home Assessments/Pre-Placement Assessments and Adoption Assistance requests. This employee will learn and use programs Compass Pilot and Compass Appointments (Compass Co-Pilot, if issued a DSS iPad) as required by position to do, but not limited to: request leave, schedule/receive appropriate appointments, set up virtual files, scan/retrieve documents, receive/send tasks.  Experience using Microsoft Office 2000 (Word, Excel, etc.) required.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; or
  • Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; or
  • Master's degree in counseling in a human services field and one year of social work or counseling; or
  • Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; or
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience.
