Job Description

SUMMARY:

The social worker in this position will be flexible and responsible for a small caseload depending on the need in each particular unit fore mentioned. This position will be receiving ongoing evaluation  by the management team to determine the greatest need to place staff resources for each unit. It is a position which requires sensitivity, good judgment, accuracy, good writing skills, initiative, dedication and the ability to work with adults, children, families and different agencies/providers. The social worker must have the ability to express ideas clearly and concisely; plan and execute work timely. This position must have considerable attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and strong writing skills.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Social Worker in this position will provide services for the unit in most need of assistance to help relieve the ever growing caseload needs within the unit. Social Worker will be required to keep accurate records regarding services provided to the individual; case recordings of contacts with the individual and relevant family/providers must be prompt and accurate. Recordings of daily services activity will be recorded on day-sheets. Mileage and other expense records will be kept as needed. Daily supervision will be directly provided by Supervisor of the unit. Employee performance will be evaluated and assessed. Performance based outcome measures set by the unit will be used as a guide when determining the Social Worker's work performance. Supervisor will be available for consultation and will meet with employee on a regular basis. Various duties and responsibilities for Child Protective Services division, Foster Care Services division and Adoption Services division.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Bachelor's degree in social work; a Master's degree in social work is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, access to reliable transportation and a Motor Vehicle Check.
  • Must be able to travel to family homes.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to apply critical and strategic thinking to case management responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently, be organized and multi-task.
  • Sensitivity to the adoption community.
  • Ability to work with and advocate for all clients served, regardless of race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or family type.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
Supplemental Information Note: In accordance with State mandates and the Rockingham County Emergency Operations Plan, Rockingham County Health and Human Services staff from the Divisions of Social Services, Public Health and Integrated Health are required to staff emergency shelters during times of disaster. Please be advised that every staff person is eligible to be assigned to an emergency shelter or Emergency Operations Center.
