DATE:     March 28, 2022   MARTIN COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES   POSITION AVAILABLE:  SOCIAL WORKER III – ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES        SALARY GRADE:  69   SALARY:  $42,000.00 IF FULLY QUALIFIED (A WORK AGAINST WILL BE CONSIDERED)   TYPE OF POSITION:  PERMANENT / FULL TIME   HOURS OR WORK:  8:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. AND ON CALL AS SCHEDULED   DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITES:   The Adult Services Unit provides services to the Adult citizens (ages 18 and older) of the county.  Services provided are Community Alternatives Program, Adult Protective Services, Guardianship, Adult Placement, Special Assistance Program, Adult Home Specialist monitoring of ACH and FCH, and Payee. The Unit interview families, who are in emergency crisis, apply assistance as policy allows, and refers them to ongoing DSS services and community resources.  The Unit focuses attention on clients’ well- being, rights, and safety. This position is also responsible for providing guardianship services for those adults determined by the Clerk of Court to be incompetent and in need of this service when there is no one else to serve in this capacity.    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITES:    Through knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to complex casework, group work, and community problems.  Considerable knowledge of a wide range of medical, behavioral and psychosocial problems and their treatment.  Considerable knowledge of governmental and private organizations and community resources.  Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies, which govern the program.  Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques.   Ability to establish rapport with a client; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of case load and their families as well as civic, legal, medical, social and religious organizations.       MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:   Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited school of Social Work.  Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from an accredited school of Social Work and one year directly related experience.  Master Degree in counseling in a human services field and one year of Social Work or Counseling. Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience.   Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.   As with all positions with the Department of Social Services, this position is mandatory to serve in shelters during the time of natural and manmade disasters including overnight and weekends.   SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:   Must live within one hour’s drive to the office; must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license; must have access to a vehicle.  Must submit an official college transcript.   All successful candidates will be subject to a drug test and criminal background check.  All interview appointments will be made by the Department of Social Services.   TO APPLY:   Anyone interested in applying for this position must submit a typed NC State Application (PD-107) from https://oshr.nc.gov/documents/nc-state-government-application-employment-pd-107  including a complete job history to:   Martin County Department of Social Services Attn: Barbie Casper 305 East Main Street PO Box 809 Williamston, NC  27932   An official college transcript is required with application.
