Brunswick County Department of Social Services is accepting applications for a Social Work Investigator in our Child Protective Services unit.  We are a forward-thinking, creative organization that truly believes in treating others as we want to be treated. Job Description Child Protective Services Assessment Social Worker: A Child Protective Services (CPS) Assessment Social Worker investigates allegations of abuse, neglect, or dependency.    The primary goal of the position is to ensure child safety while connecting the family with resources to strengthen the family unit and prevent children from entering foster care.  The ideal candidate can work independently and as a member of a team. Job responsibilities include:
  • Conduct home visits and interviews with all household members to assess the safety of children
  • Collect information from collaterals and service providers
  • Connect families to community resources
  • Complete timely, concise, detailed documentation
  • As needed file court paperwork, assume custody of children and testify at court hearings
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of child welfare policies and legal mandates
  • Knowledge of social work and practices and principles (particularly strengths-based)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Assessments Skills
  • Communication Skills (oral and written)

Normal Business Hours are 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday.  Must be available to work after normal business hours and during emergency situations. Qualifications Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only); Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; Master's degree in a human services field and one year of directly related experience; Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience. **Please submit a copy of college transcripts with application** Physical Requirements Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines, which include typewriters, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, etc.  Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pound of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
