Job Requirements:

 This social work position provides placement and adoption services for children (ages 0 – 18) that are in the legal custody of the Vance County Dept. of Social Services. The social worker in this position will demonstrate a knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices, and their application to complex casework, group work and community problems. Be knowledgeable of a wide range of behavioral and psychosocial problems and their treatment. Ensure that services provided follow State, and Federal policies governing Foster Care/Placement and Adoption Services.  Demonstrate an ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.  On-Call duty for afterhours, weekends, holidays and Disaster Duty is also, an essential function of this position.

Essential functions:

Work with community partners to include GAL program, schools, medical personnel and mental health professionals to ensure the well-being needs of the children and families are properly addressed. Perform client and family assessments for cases open for foster care and adoption services.  Make referrals for follow-up services when necessary, preparing court and adoption summaries, testify in court, attend Child and Family Team meetings, permanency planning reviews, and other meetings to support the plan of the children while providing support and guidance to Parent(s), Foster Parents and Adoptive Parents.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum Education and Experience -

Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work;

or Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative; or

Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; or

Master's degree in a human services field and one year of directly related experience; or

Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; or

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience.
