Job Description

POSITION:        Social Worker Investigative/Assessment & Treatment or (Work Against)   SALARY:            $41,600 - $68,471   DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Child Protective Services – This position is responsible for taking reports of alleged child abuse, neglect and dependency and completing investigations and/or family assessments on referrals of children that are alleged to be abused, neglected, or dependent.  Worker must have the ability to quickly assess the risk and safety of the client situation during daylight hours, after dark, and in high crime areas and the ability to use negotiation to resolve issues regarding risk and safety of children. This position also provides in home services for cases that are substantiated or found to be in need of services. This position entails an extensive amount of court involvement, including completing court reports and testifying for the agency about facts surrounding the case for all children in the agency’s custody. This position requires thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their applications to complex casework, treatment, and investigation/assessments of abused, neglected, or dependent children; thorough knowledge of policies and procedures shown by the ability to cite the authority of federal and state law; thorough knowledge of individual and group behavior, family dynamics, and psychosocial problems. This position is required to be on-call on a rotation basis for after hours and weekends to respond to child and adult protective services reports. Worker must possess the ability to perform manual work exerting up to 50 pounds of force to move objects and/or lifting of a child/children and equipment when necessary. Position does require occasional overnight travel and overtime as needed to meet state mandates and timelines. Requires computer proficiency; a valid North Carolina driver’s license, a car for use at work with valid insurance. This position will also provide back-up for the other programs in the services unit as needed including Adult Protective Services.   As with all positions with the Department of Social Services, this position is mandatory to serve in shelters in time of natural and man-made disasters including overnight and weekends.   This position is classified as FLSA non-exempt.   Minimum Training and Experience: Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work experience; or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; or Master’s degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or counseling experience; or a four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum and three years of social work or counseling experience; or graduation from a four-year college or university and four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling or a related human service field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work or community organization; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.   One year of work experience can be credited for completion of the social work collaborative.   Note** - A work against candidates will be considered at a lower salary and allows for the suitable candidate to obtain the experience by working in a lower classification.   HOW TO APPLY: Interested applicants must submit a typed NC State Application (PD-107) including a complete job history to Chowan County Department of Social Services Attn: Cheri Blount , 100 W.
