Job Description

Job Purpose

Alamance County is in search of an Adult Home Specialist (SW III) for the Adult Services Unit. The primary purpose of this position is to assure various types of adult care homes operate within the applicable rules, regulations and laws through an ongoing planning and monitoring process The goal of this position is to foster a protective environment for frail and vulnerable adults served by the adult care home industry.

Responsibilities

  • Consults and supervises adult care centers in Alamance County with the goal of assuring safe and quality care for the residents of these homes.
  •  Promotes operations within homes that will exceed minimum requirements. Types of homes that fall under oversight include adult care homes with as few as two residents, such as a family care home to large adult care homes with as many as one hundred adults, many diagnosed with multiple disabling conditions, long term or terminal illnesses such as Alzheimer's disease.
  • Investigates all complaints received on adult care and family care homes according to the NC regulations governing the facilities.
  • Monitors all adult daycares in Alamance County for compliance with regulations and laws.
  • Investigates all complaints that might arise from adult daycares in Alamance County.
All Adult Social Worker III positions at Alamance County Department of Social Services, provides back up to Adult Protective Services when needed.  This position ensures needed coverage to Adult Protective Services during times of staff shortage or increased volume of Adult Protective Services reports.

Skills & Abilities

Education & Experience:  Master's degree from an accredited school of social work; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of directly related experience in case management, assessment  & referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning; or a four-year degree in a human service field and two years of directly related experience in case management, assessment & referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning; or graduation from a four-year college or university and three years of directly related experience in case management, assessment & referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A copy of a certified college transcript and a letter of reference must be provided upon request. Computer Skills:  Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint Experience). License/Credentials: Possession of a valid N.C. driver's license is required for this position and maintaining a driving record in accordance with Alamance County policy. Other Position Information: This position is subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and client population and are subject to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as required and may be required to staff shelter overnight.
