Job Description
Do you have a passionate concern for the welfare of children and their families? Are you an experienced Social Worker with the demonstrated ability to work through tough situations with compassion and diplomacy? The Children’s Advocacy and Protection Center (CAPC) of Catawba County is recruiting for a Victim Advocate (Social Worker III) to provide comprehensive social work services in an effort to reduce systemic trauma for child victims of sexual and/or severe physical abuse and their non-offending family members by providing a variety of intensive advocacy services and interventions. In this position, you will collaborate directly with other professionals, law enforcement, and court officials to advocate for the best possible case resolution.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide crisis intervention, support, education, and advocacy to clients and non-offending caretaker/family members
- Assess child victim and other non-offending family member’s need for individual and/or group therapy
- Facilitate the non-offending caretaker support and education group
- Keep apprised of current trends in treatment of child victim’s sexual abuse
- Accompany child victim and/or non-offending family members to court
- Provide necessary referrals and linkage to these services
- Maintain demographic data and victim advocate tab in the online tracking system, CareNet, for each client
- Coordinate and facilitate bi-weekly case review team meetings and assist non-offending family members in preparation for court
- Provide sexual abuse prevention training to adults as well as assist the CAPC Director with other public presentations
- Serve a liaison to all multi-disciplinary team agencies and collaborating partners
- Facilitate/Coordinate Camp Dragonfly- a summer day camp for girls who are victims of sexual abuse/sexual assault.
- Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work, or
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and 1year of social work experience; or
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services field and 2 year of social work experience; or
- Bachelor’s degree in non-human services field and 3 years of social work experience
- Valid Driver’s license with safe driving record
- Outstanding compassion and diplomacy in order to interact and collaborate with a variety of diverse individuals and groups
- Dedication necessary to navigate community systems
- Exemplary interpersonal, counseling, and team building skills
- Excellent insight and judgment
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Knowledge of the dynamics involved in sexual abuse and interface with judicial system
- Sound case management skills to assure identification, linkage, and assurance of services
- High level of comfort and skills in the areas of public speaking and facilitation of groups
- Ability to ensure data accurately into an integrated data base
- This is considered Light Work; lifting up to 20 pounds.
- Bachelor’s or Masters’ degree in Social Work strongly preferred
- Prefer 1-3 years of experience with Child Advocacy and Protection Center, child sexual abuse, Department of Social Services, and/or child protection work
