Cabarrus County Department of Social Services (DSS) is conducting a comprehensive search for a results driven leader with a passion for public service to be our next DSS Deputy Director of Social Work Programs. This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership and support for one of the fastest growing and diverse counties in North Carolina. Cabarrus County (CaboCo) seeks a dynamic professional with extensive experience in North Carolina Child & Family and Adult & Aging Social Work Programs, local government operations, budgeting, and organizational effectiveness to serve as Deputy Director. The Deputy Director must be a strong leader, collaborative, analytical, detail-oriented and a problem-solver by nature. The Deputy Director will assist in leading this important County Department in building a vision for the future that is shaped by the desire to work collaboratively with the Human Services Director, DSS Director, County Management, and key stakeholders creating a better quality of life for everyone in our community.  

Minimum Education / Experience requirements

  Basic Education and Experience Master’s degree in social work, Public Administration, or a related field required. Minimum of 4 years of progressive leadership experience in social services, with a focus on child welfare and/or adult and aging services. Degree must be from an appropriately accredited college or university. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. Beyond the Basics  Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following credentials. Information must be reflected on the employment application to receive priority consideration.  
  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or closely related filed.
  • Extensive knowledge of North Carolina Child & Family and Adult & Aging Program within the Department of Social Services.
  • Four years of experience at the Program Administrators or Division Director level within a Department of Social Services.
  • Track record of successful developing staff and building relationships.
  • High level of integrity, honesty and strong work ethic, with ability to maintain a professional demeanor in a stressful environment.
  • Effectively communicate (orally and written communication) and a track record responding to inquiries or complaints from program staff, clients, customers, and representatives of other organizations, regulatory agencies, or departments.
