ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN II Position # 610111 Salary Range:       $37,052-$58,562 Primary Purpose of Position: The primary purpose of this position is the responsible party in Agency Contracts, Records Retention for the Department, Medicaid Transportation reimbursement, and Home Community Care Block Grant. The position also works directly with other Accounting Technician IIs in the Fiscal/Administrative Unit as the backup for these positions. Worker must have a level of professionalism such that confidentiality and overall security of agency funds are maintained. Worker must have strong decision-making skills when dealing with both clients and staff. Worker must possess the ability to perform well independently as well as a team. The worker must perform well under all stress levels and possess strong time management skills as necessary. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of the application of established bookkeeping and accounting principles and techniques to standard accounting transactions.  General knowledge of established governmental and departmental budgeting and bookkeeping practices and procedures.  General knowledge of office methods and procedures.  Ability to plan, organize, and review the work of subordinate clerical personnel. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public and other government employees.  Ability to present information clearly and concisely in oral and written form.  Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and policies to the maintenance of financial records. Minimum Education and Experience: Graduation from a high school including or supplemented by basic courses in bookkeeping or accounting and three years' experience in bookkeeping or accounting clerical work in an accounting office; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Completion of a one or two year business course in an accredited community college or business school including or supplemented by basic courses in bookkeeping or accounting may be substituted for two and three years of the required experience respectively). NOTE: Will accept applications for Accounting Technician I at Salary Grade 59 ($33,738 - $53,325) working against Accounting Technician II. Minimum Education and Experience Graduation from a high school including or supplemented by basic courses in bookkeeping or accounting and two years' experience in bookkeeping or accounting clerical work in an accounting office; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Completion of a one-year business course in a business school including or supplemented by courses in bookkeeping or accounting may be substituted for the required experience.) Valid North Carolina driver's license required. Bilinguals encouraged to apply. DD 214 is required from applicants claiming a military preference.
