Job Description
| The Vance County Social Services Board is accepting applications for the position of Social Services Director. The Director manages a staff of 140 employees and is responsible for administering a total operating budget of approximately $12 Million. As agency director, employee directs other managers/supervisors, professional, paraprofessional, and support staff in the delivery of agency services and provides leadership and direction for program development, establishing program standards and monitoring and evaluating quality of service delivery systems. Employee supervises budget activities and may maintain direct involvement in conflict/complaint resolution, staffing and personnel issues and serve as the principle spokesperson for the agency relative to program issues. Work also involves representing the agency with government officials, other human services providers, and a variety of advocacy groups to influence the decision making process in order to insure adequate resources for program maintenance and expansion and the delivery of comprehensive services. Employee is appointed by and report to a local board of social services. Examples of Duties include: 1. Establishes and promotes the vision and direction of the Vance County Department of Social Services consistent with state and federal mandates, establishing and implementing departmental goals and objectives. 2. Formulates, directs the development of, and management of the department's annual budget; determines agency needs for each fiscal year; seeks new sources of funding; reviews spending trends and agency structure to enhance revenues. 3. Responds to public requests and concerns, including complaints, records requests, and questions regarding all service areas. 4. Responds to requests from the Social Services Board, County Manager, County Finance, and the Board of County Commissioners. 5. Serves on boards and committees as required by N. C. General Statutes as well as those that serve the interest of the agency and County organization. 6. Selects, assigns, directs, and evaluates the performance of subordinate executive managers and supervisors and oversees management development and training programs. 7. Director advises the Administrative Officer and Supervisors in handling problems, with staff and handles all formal disciplinary actions. 8. Director provides direct supervision to up to 10 supervisors and administrative staff. |
