Social Worker I

Job Description

This position is responsible for assessing clients who are in an immediate crisis, such as facing eviction, disconnection of utilities, or in a heating or cooling crisis. The person in this position may be required to assess up to 20 clients in a single work day. Employees in this position will administer the following programs: Crisis Intervention Program (CIP), Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), Work First Emergency Assistance, General Assistance, and others. Also, the position will assist in uncovering outside resources that may be beneficial to clients.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Abilities -Working knowledge of basic social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to specific casework, group work, and community problems. Knowledge of governmental and private organizations and resources in the community. Some knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative supervisors, with members of case load and their families, and with care providers and various community organizations. Ability to express ideals clearly and concisely. Ability to plan and execute work. Proficiencies:  Typing, Microsoft Word and Excel.

Minimum Training and Experience - Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution; Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
