ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN II
Position # 610111 Salary Range: $37,052 - $58,562
Primary Purpose of Position: The primary purpose of this position is ensuring compliance with general statutes, managing and processing agency bills, and maintaining accurate account of funds spent and balances in general ledger line items, which requires knowledge of budget procedures and guidelines. This position purchases agency supplies and equipment, regulates disbursement of same and controls inventory. This is advanced and specialized accounting technician work performing a variety of accounting functions in an efficient and timely manner according to policy and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of the application of established bookkeeping and accounting principles and techniques to standard accounting transactions. General knowledge of established governmental and departmental budgeting and bookkeeping practices and procedures. General knowledge of office methods and procedures. Ability to plan, organize, and review the work of subordinate clerical personnel. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public and other government employees. Ability to present information clearly and concisely in oral and written form. Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and policies to the maintenance of financial records.
Minimum Education and Experience: Graduation from a high school including or supplemented by basic courses in bookkeeping or accounting and three years' experience in bookkeeping or accounting clerical work in an accounting office; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Completion of a one or two year business course in an accredited community college or business school including or supplemented by basic courses in bookkeeping or accounting may be substituted for two and three years of the required experience respectively.) NOTE: Will accept applications for Accounting Technician I at Salary Grade 59 ($33,738 - $53,325) working against Accounting Technician II. Minimum Education and Experience Graduation from a high school including or supplemented by basic courses in bookkeeping or accounting and two years’ experience in bookkeeping or accounting clerical work in an accounting office; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Completion of a one-year business course in a business school including or supplemented by courses in bookkeeping or accounting may be substituted for the required experience.) Bilinguals are encouraged to apply. Valid North Carolina driver license required. DD 214 is required from applicants claiming a military preference.
