Mecklenburg County, with seven municipalities and anchored by Charlotte, the largest city in North Carolina, seeks a visionary, mission-minded professional to serve as its Director of Child, Family and Adult Services (Director). The Director will oversee the operations of the divisions of Youth and Family Services, Adult Services, Operations, Strategy, & Innovation, and Clinical & Contractual Services. The ideal candidate is a highly competent human services professional who can navigate the challenges of recruitment and retention of staff while overseeing daily operations that include service delivery for children, families and adults, adequate foster placements for youth in the County’s custody, guardianship services for adults, transportation, and nutrition services for seniors, among other responsibilities. About the Department and Position: The Mecklenburg County Department of Child, Family and Adult Services is committed to strengthening families and communities through a safety-net of services, collaborations, and hope. Reporting to the Deputy County Manager/Consolidated Human Services Agency Director, the Director will manage a budget of $222 million, oversee a department of nearly 700 employees and perform complex professional and administrative work directing social service and public assistance activities and programs for the County. The next Director will demonstrate a commitment to preserving families, promoting self-sufficiency, and meeting basic human needs by expanding program activity and initiatives, identifying public and private grant sources, and working with the community to prepare proposals, assisting in grant writing and oversight of performance under grants. Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field and a minimum of ten years of experience in public management; including three years of supervisory experience is required. A Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) is preferred. Applicants must have an extensive knowledge of management principles applicable to the operation of a human service/government agency delivery system in a large county like Mecklenburg. Applicants must also have an understanding of the organizational structure of a department of social services and applicable county policy as well as state and federal laws, rules, and regulations. A NC or SC state driver’s license is required. Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $169,599 (min) - $211,999 (mid) - $254,398 (max). The hiring salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
