INCOME MAINTENANCE CASEWORKER III

Primary Purpose of Position: The major purpose of this position is to take, process and review applications for Public Assistance programs. Average caseload consists of 100-200 cases consisting of relative cases, foster care cases and specialized cases such as the Flynn Home and Family Violence Center. Walk-ins and referral come from social workers, medical providers, and civic and church groups, as well as relatives and concerned citizens. This worker, with assistance from the supervisor, is responsible for making decisions to determine eligibility or ineligibility. If a case is taken to court that this worker has worked with, they would prepare the preliminary summary to be used by the fraud investigators to prepare the case for court. The worker would be expected to testify to the validity of information taken at the time of the interview. This worker is responsible for assisting the caseworkers in preparing the summaries and presenting them for the appellants in local and state appeals.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of income maintenance program assigned. Considerable knowledge of all agency and community programs and services which could affect the client/applicant. General knowledge of all income maintenance programs. Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills. Ability to read, analyze and interpret a variety of regulations, policies and procedure of varying complexity. Ability to work independently and prioritize work. Ability to instruct and evaluate the work of lower level employees. Ability to train employees in new and existing rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to understand the needs and problems of clients/applicants. Ability to perform caseworker function under and within structured time frames.
Minimum Education and Experience: Two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Career Readiness (CRC) and NC FAST Certificate are preferred. Bilinguals are encouraged to apply. Valid North Carolina driver license required. DD 214 is required from applicants claiming a military preference.
