JOB TITLE:                    Paralegal I

DEPARTMENT:            Social Services

SALARY:                        Based on experience

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The primary purpose of a paralegal is to enable DSS attorneys to be more efficient in delivering quality legal representation. The paralegal performs specifically delegated substantive work in a timely and cost-effective manner, allowing attorneys to concentrate on more complex legal work.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Valid N.C. Driver’s License, good driving record, and transportation for use at work. Ability to follow directions and work both independently and as a team; ability to perform accurate and timely clerical support and provide quality customer service.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited school for paralegal training and one year of experience as a paralegal, or graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in English, Journalism, or a degree directly related to the area assigned and one year of substantive paralegal experience; or graduation from high school and five years of paralegal experience performing delegated, substantive legal work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
