PROCESSING ASSISTANT V Position # 613603 Salary Range:       $37,052 - $58,562 Primary Purpose of Position: The Processing Assistant V is an integral part of the Administrative Division of the Department of Social Services. This position is responsible for receiving all clients, visitors and public constituents visiting or calling the agency.  This position is also responsible for referring all visitors, clients and constituents to the proper worker. This position requires a great deal of flexibility to make and answer phone calls while receiving clients at the window. The work required is frequently performed under stressful conditions because of the volume of clients, visitors and other public constituents and the frustrations involved in dealing with these individuals. This position is an integral part of the Social Services as this position ensures that all clients, visitors and other public constituents as well as co-workers are helped in a courteous, caring and professional manner. This position can also serve in the mailroom as needed. This position also receives mail that is brought in by the public as well as handing mail that workers have left with them for the public to pick up from the agency. This worker is responsible for issuing fishing licenses and maintaining records for denials and approvals. Ninety eight percent of this workers time is spent with the public. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of office management techniques; and ability to practice effective communication techniques both orally and in writing; effective supervisory practices and ability to plan and supervise the work of others, if applicable. Ability to analyze and interpret policy and procedural guidelines and to resolve problems and questions.  Skill in organizing work flow and coordinating activities. Minimum Education and Experience: Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills and abilities gained through at least three years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or completion of a two-year secretarial science or business administration program with one year of responsible experience as described above; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
