Job Description

Job Description: The primary purpose of this position is to supervise all service program areas within the agency. This includes the Child Protective Services Unit, the In Home and Foster Care Unit, the Foster Care and Adoption, the integrated child and adult services intake unit. The person in this position is responsible for working directly with the supervisors of the units. This involves working with each supervisor to meet the total needs of the services staff. This Manager may be required to speak to upset clients in the office or go on home visits; A high stress level is inherent in this position due to the nature and complexity of issues impacting the families and clients; this position could have exposure to hazards in the field including but not limited to unfamiliar neighborhoods and housing conditions.  This employee must monitor and evaluate an administrative budget for the services' units.   Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training. Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices, and their application to complex casework, group work, and community problems. Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques. Considerable knowledge of governmental and private organizations and resources in the community. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies which govern social work programs. Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socio-economic problems and their treatment. Ability to supervise, train, or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns, or other staff. Computer skills. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively. Skills would include but are not limited to: develops reciprocal work relationships within and without the agency; interprets manual material; analyzes thoroughly; listens effectively; speaks clearly; communicates and writes well; and functions efficiently within the administrative, supervisory, and line worker levels.   Minimum Education & Experience: Master's degree from an accredited school of social work and three years of social work or counseling experience, two of which was in a supervisory capacity; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work and four years of social work or counseling experience, two of which were in a supervisory capacity; or a master's degree in a counseling field and four years of social work or counseling experience, two of which were in a supervisory capacity; or a four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and five years of social work or counseling experience, two of which were in a supervisory capacity; or graduation from a four-year college or university and six years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or a related human services field providing experience in techniques of casework, group work, or community organization, two of which were in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.   Physical Requirements: Must be able to physically perform the basic life support functions of reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform sedentary/light work which includes exerting up to 10-20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
