Job Description

Job Description This position will supervise and implement the provision of Child Welfare Services to a Child Protective Services Social Work team. The Supervisor will work closely with other Child Welfare Supervisors, Social Work Program Manager, Child Welfare Attorney, Program Administrator and the Agency Director. Responsibilities include: planning, coordinating, assessing, monitoring, and conducting the unit’s work within the agency and in the greater community; examining the needs of the unit social workers, and the community as they relate to the provision of services and maintaining quality service provision to reflect the meeting of such needs; complying with the legal mandates and agency standards in accordance with social work values and best practice to ensure that children are properly protected and minimally cared for; and other duties as assigned by Program Manager. This position will provide After Hours supervision to social workers on a rotation basis or when requested by the Program Manager.   Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training. Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices, and their application to complex casework, group work, and community problems. Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques. Considerable knowledge of governmental and private organizations and resources in the community. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies which govern social work programs. Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socio-economic problems and their treatment. Ability to supervise, train, or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns, or other staff. Computer skills. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively. Skills would include but are not limited to:  develops reciprocal work relationships within and without the agency; interprets manual material; analyzes thoroughly; listens effectively; speaks clearly; communicates and writes well; and functions efficiently within the administrative, supervisory, and line worker levels. Ability to work well under pressure and stressful situations.   Minimum Education & Experience Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a master’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.   Physical Requirements Must be able to physically perform the basic life support functions of stooping, reaching, walking, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform sedentary work which includes exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Must have the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate typewriter or computer terminal, do extensive reading and determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
