Job Description

Position Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to directly supervise social workers in the foster care and adoptions section of the Services Division. This supervisor is responsible for directly supervising the casework of social workers who carry a foster care/adoptions caseload. The supervisor is also responsible for determining and verifying the financial eligibility for children who are in foster care. The Supervisor’s facilitation of the expansion of Links Services is important to the success of older youth in care. Additional requirements include directing staff in the process of applying statewide policies and initiatives such as ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), Foster Care for 18-21 year old’s, and guardianship services.   The supervisor will be responsible for continuous quality assurance across all foster care programs to ensure NCDHHS required baselines are met on a monthly basis. This requires the supervisor to have knowledge of state systems such as Data Warehouse and XPTR to generate reports, critical thinking skills to interpret data, and technical skills to navigate the NCFAST case management system.   Knowledge, Skill & Abilities: Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training. Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems. Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern social work programs. Ability to supervise, train, or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns, or other staff. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.   Minimum Training/Qualifications: Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a master’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.   Special Requirement: Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
