Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this position will be to provide Supervision and Training for Adult Protective Services teams. The Adult Protective Services Unit is responsible for the provision of protection for Adults. Protective Services are legally mandated for disabled adults who are believed to have been abused, neglected or exploited and unable to obtain essential services and are without able, willing or responsible persons to assist them in acquiring these essential services. By statute, county departments of social services must provide these protective services to disabled adults 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Duties relate to case assignment, coordination of work flow, case review and consultation; staff training, resolving problems and ensuring that quality services are provided to the community. The successful candidate will have a considerable knowledge of laws, regulations and policies which are applicable.
Regular work hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday; however, flexible hours may be necessary to meet the needs of the agency. Supervisor will provide consultation and direction after hours and on weekends to the DSS on-call social work staff with regard to adult services as is necessary.
Responsibilities
To be effective in this position you must have a thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to complex casework, group work and community problems.
- Provides supervision and managerial functions including planning, organizing/directing, training, setting work standards, reviewing work, counseling and disciplining and performing other personnel functions for lower-level social workers, students, interns and other staff members.
- Must often work with complex and involved family dynamics, acute to severe medical and/or emotional disorders and mental illnesses that the client may possess as well as handle emergencies and crises as they arise-on an almost daily basis.
- Serves a rotational on-call and back up schedule for emergency situations involving the need to be available after hours for welfare needs.
