The Social Work Supervisor III leads a team of Permanency Planning / Foster Care Social Workers who are responsible for working with children and families who are involved in the Foster Care system.  The primary goal of this position is to oversee the agency’s efforts to establish safe permanent homes for children in foster care by addressing safety issues that lead to the department’s involvement.  The ideal candidate can work independently and as a member of a team. Job responsibilities include:
  • Plan, organize, and direct day-to-day case assignments and workflow
  • Supervise staff through case review and consultation
  • Coach, train, and mentor staff
  • Resolve complex problems and ensure quality services are provided
  • Maintain relationships and collaborate with community partners
  • Address personnel concerns
  • Provide occasional supervision to after-hours social workers
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of child welfare policies and legal mandates
  • Knowledge of social work and practices and principles (particularly strengths-based)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Assessments Skills
  • Communication Skills (oral and written)
  • Organizational Skills
  • Critical Thinking Skills
Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training. Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems. Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies which govern social work programs. Ability to supervise, train, or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns, or other staff. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively. Must be available to work after normal business hours and during emergency situations.Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or
  • Master’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
