Job Description Social Work Supervisor III-Permanency Planning / Foster Care:   This Social Work Supervisor leads a team of Child Welfare Permanency Planning / Foster Care Social Workers who are responsible for working with children and families who are involved in the Foster Care system.   The primary goal of this position is to oversee the agency’s efforts to establish safe permanent homes for children in foster care by addressing safety issues that lead to the department’s involvement.  The ideal candidate can work independently and as a member of a team. Job responsibilities include:
  • Plan, organize and direct day to day case assignments and workflow
  • Supervise staff through case review and consultation
  • Coach, train, and mentor staff
  • Resolve complex problems and ensure quality services are provided
  • Maintain relationships and collaborate with community partners
  • Address personnel concerns
  • Provide occasional supervision to after-hours social workers
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of child welfare policies and legal mandates
  • Knowledge of social work and practices and principles (particularly strengths-based)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Assessments Skills

Normal Business Hours are 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday.  Must be available to work after normal business hours and during emergency situations. Qualifications Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training.  Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems.  Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socio-economic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources.  Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern social work programs.  Ability to supervise, train, or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns or other staff.  Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively. Previous supervisory experience in social work or related field is preferred. Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a master’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. **PLEASE SUBMIT COPY OF COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS WITH APPLICATION** Physical Requirements Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including common office machines such as calculators and copiers, etc.  Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.  However, if the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
