- Brunswick County Department of Social Services is accepting applications for a Social Worker III in our Child Protective Services unit, In-Home Services unit, and our Permanency Planning/Foster Care unit. - Make regular home visits/community visits with parents and child(ren)
- Conduct private discussions with adults and children to assess child safety and risk on an ongoing basis
- Supervise visits with parents/caregivers and transport child(ren) at times
- Connect families to community resources to address safety and risk factors
- Assess child safety and risk on an ongoing basis
- Complete timely, concise, detailed documentation.
- Complete court reports and testify at court hearings
- As needed, file court paperwork, assume custody of children, and testify at court hearings
- Collaborate with team members
- Knowledge of child welfare policies and legal mandates
- Knowledge of social work and practices and principles (particularly strengths-based)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

- Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; or
- Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only); or
- Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; or
- Master's degree in a human services field and one year of directly related experience; or
- Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; or
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of office equipment. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pound of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
