DESCRIPTION:
The Johnston County Department of Social Services has an immediate opening for a Clinical Social Worker in the Clinical Team. Located in the eastern half of North Carolina and part of the Research Triangle Region, Johnston County is part of the fastest growing region of the state. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary purpose of this position is to provide intensive therapy and crisis intervention for a caseload of seriously emotionally disturbed children up to age 18 and their adult parents as well as foster youth up to age 21. The clinical social worker is responsible for assessment, evaluation and management of a treatment plan for each child/adult in the caseload. The clinical social worker is also responsible for the licensing and advanced training to a caseload of specialized foster parents as part of an overall service plan on behalf of children with serious behavioral and emotional problems. Clinical treatment of children and adults with mental health issues is the primary responsibility of the Clinical Social Worker. The clinical social worker will be expected to make the specific recommendations based on an assessment and the completion of treatment goals. A high level of intensive involvement is expected to be provided for the children in DSS custody. The clinical social worker serves as a highly skilled clinician within Johnston County Department of Social Services Adult and Family Services Section. The work is advanced Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, other evidence-based treatments, and counseling/ supportive psychotherapy that is provided to children/adults who quite possibly have indicated or allegedly used substances that interfere in one's ability to provide a safe environment for children to thrive. This position is expected to practice the specified models of treatment with fidelity. This position will report to the Clinical Social Work Supervisor for supervision and may receive higher level LCSW supervision as needed. This position will work individually with clients and in teams with other social workers, psychologist and LCSWs. This position will assist in the development and modifications for the required training for agency foster parents and ensure that such training is provided on a regular ongoing basis pertaining to trauma and other mental and behavioral related issues and topics. The worker will provide in-depth assessments, trauma assessments and treatment planning for those foster children identified as needing therapeutic foster placement through the Johnston County Department of Social Services. The worker will provide varied and complex psychotherapy with complex multi-problem or advanced clinical social work services for foster children with mild to moderate mental health issues and/or psychiatric problems. The worker will provide regular ongoing training to foster parents for the various foster children regarding some of the following issues: behavior modification, social support, stress management, communication, and social competency techniques, conflict resolution, interpersonal skills, crisis intervention, various abuse and neglect issues; moving beyond sadness/depression, anger management; independent living skills; self-control; conflict resolution; self-esteem; sexual development; discipline techniques; caring for children with ADD/ADHD; communication with teenagers; dealing with angry children; and Life Book Training. This position will available for case management and crisis intervention assistance during regular and non-business hours to assist foster parents as well as the children they care for at any given time.
  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices, and their application to complex casework, group work and community problems. Considerable knowledge of a wide range of medical behavioral and psychosocial problems and their treatment. Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques. Considerable knowledge of governmental and private organizations and resources in the community. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program. General knowledge of medical terminology, diseases processes and their treatment as they relate to decisions regarding clinical interventions and appropriate therapies based on medical or psychological diagnosis. Skill in establishing rapport with a client and in applying techniques of assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of client's problems. Ability to supervise, train, or instruct lower-level social workers, students, interns in the program. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of caseload and their families as well as civic, legal, medical, social, and religious organizations. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.
  DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of supervised social work experience as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board. *Please document all work history relevant to the position for which you are applying.
