The Vance County Department of Social Services seeks to hire on a contract basis, an experienced attorney to provide legal services on behalf of the agency. The attorney will provide legal representation in the areas of Child Protective Services, Foster Care/Adoptions Services, Adult Protective Services, Adult Guardianship Services, and Child Support Enforcement.
Responsibilities are to include but not limited to:
- Pre and post consultations with agency staff to prepare for legal proceedings and to discuss hearing results and/or updates

Assist agency staff with the development and completion of petitions and motions for review

Draft and finalize all court orders and supporting legal documents

Provide training to agency staff relating to legal updates, case preparation, court procedures, and oral testimony

Available to agency staff for consultation and advisement after hours, weekends, and on holidays

Additional legal services may be requested by the agency on an as needed basis
Minimum training and experience requirement: Graduation from an accredited law school and licensure to practice law in the State of North Carolina with two years of DSS legal representation experience preferred.
The proposal and subsequent billing must comply with DSS Fiscal Manual Section II- Determination and Allowable/Unallowable Cost, Part B.Professional Services, Section 2.Attorney Services and be able to meet all requirements of the State’s Contract-General (06/15).
The Director desires proposals not to exceed $90 per hour for services and $45 per hour while attending trainings or seminars.
