Senior Caseworker (Zone 1 – Program Integrity)

The New Hanover County Department of Social Services is seeking an experienced Caseworker to work in Program Integrity. Program Integrity Caseworkers are responsible for conducting front-end investigations and alleged program abuse from referrals received on the following programs: Food & Nutrition Services Program, Medicaid Programs, Special Assistance (SA), Child Care Services, and Work First Family Assistance (WFFA). Duties include:

• Assist with investigations and client hearings involving the misuse of aid and assistance and/or clients contesting a reduction in or termination of benefits.
• Receive, review, and evaluate referrals to determine if investigation is warranted.
• Conduct interviews with clients, household members, employers, community agencies, and other sources of information to determine if fraudulent or improper eligibility practices have occurred.
• Calculate overpayment.
• Determine the appropriate course of action in a timely manner, following investigation.
• Prepare and present evidence of the case; document the verdict and sentence imposed; complete appropriate forms for accounting purposes.
• Plan and schedule hearings, appointments, and staff consultations.
• Communicate and coordinate with hearing officer and state officials for appeals and hearings.
• Coordinate client repayments of over-issued benefits.
• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
• Perform work during emergency/disaster situations.
