Social Worker II - Adult  Services Position #536006 OPENING DATE: 12/18/2023                                          PAY GRADE: 68 CLOSING DATE: OPEN UNTIL FILLED              SALARY: $46,477 - $51,302 JOB DESCRIPTION: The primary job of this Social Worker is to provide Adult Services to disabled and elderly adults in Hoke County with a focus on the Special Assistance In-Home Program. The Special Assistance in Home Program includes case management to assess disabled adults’ ability to remain safely in their home with the assistance of a financial payment from the program. The Social Worker works closely with Adult Medicaid caseworkers to determine eligibility for the program. Additionally, the position is part of a unit with multiple mandated programs to include protective services for adults, foster care for adults, health support services, adult placement services, representative payee services, guardianship services and in-home aide level one services. In addition to maintaining a caseload of Special Assistance in Home, the position will take intake calls for adult protective services referrals for screening by the unit supervisor. Work involves assessment of family dynamics and needs, provision of crisis intervention services, referral and coordination of community resources, and intermittent back up to other adult services staff. Social Worker must be able to exercise considerable judgment in assessments and service planning. Work requires an understanding of social work assessment techniques and treatment approaches. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices, and their application to complex casework, group work, and community problems. Considerable knowledge of a wide range of medical, behavioral, and/or psychosocial problems and their treatment theory. Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques, governmental and private organizations, and resources in the community, laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program. General knowledge of the methods and principles of casework supervision and training. In certain settings, considerable knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and their treatment as they relate to decisions regarding clinical interventions and appropriate therapies based on medical or psychological diagnosis. Skill in establishing rapport with a client and in applying techniques or assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of client’s problems. Ability to supervise, train, or instruct lower-level social workers, students, or interns in the program. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of case load and their families, as well as civic, legal, medical, social, and religious organizations. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: Bachelor's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution; bachelor's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience; bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
