What You'll Be Doing

Help end hunger and improve nutrition and health, by assisting eligible low-income households buy the food they need for a nutritionally adequate diet. Our Food & Nutrition Services Intake and Review Section works to ensure Wake County residents have access to healthy foods. We are currently seeking a time-limited, Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) Eligibility Team Lead to help coach a dynamic team of Caseworkers! This position is full-time and benefits-eligible and currently funded for one year. Wake County will reassess and extend the position based upon availability of funding and business need. A Food and Nutrition Services Eligibility Team Lead serves as lead, for either an Intake or Review team, and provides advanced-level guidance and support to 8-10 case management staff and trainees.  Your coaching will assist in bringing FNS casework quality within the goals set by the Economic and Social Services Division and the North Carolina Department Health and Human Services. Primary responsibilities include:
  • Providing on-the-job training and support to new staff who have completed classroom policy training, as well as ongoing instruction as directed on new policies, policy clarifications, complex policies, or on policy/procedure identified through the QA process
  • Providing refresher training as needed for experienced staff who need extra assistance and assisting staff working through technical difficulties they may have with NCFast
  • Assisting the team with specialized reports and complex FNS cases; running and analyzing Data Warehouse and NCFAST reports
  • Assisting the Program Manager and Supervisors with assigning daily/monthly work
  • Managing a caseload to include, processing cases, including late applications or cases, and emergencies; contacting clients and gathering needed documents; assessing information provided to determine benefits; and entering required data and documentation into online an electronic system to determine eligibility
  • Completing quality assurance reviews on processed cases

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years of job-related experience
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Two (2) or more years experience determining eligibility and providing case management for Food & Nutrition Services, in a County Department of Social Services/Human Services
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English)
  • Experience using NCFast
